One to Watch: Ward Heads to Yeovil for Crucial Loan Spell

It’s another step in the journey for one of Rovers’ most promising young talents, as 21-year-old goalkeeper Ward heads to Yeovil Town on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Despite still being just 21, Ward’s already clocked up 42 Football League appearances in a Rovers shirt — not bad going for a young keeper. He’s no stranger to the National League either, having had solid spells with Wealdstone and Forest Green Rovers, where he made 19 and 31 appearances respectively. That experience will serve him well as he links up with Mark Cooper’s side at Huish Park.

From what we’ve seen of Ward, he’s got all the tools: sharp reflexes, a calm head, and a big presence in the box. He’s someone who commands his area well and never looks rattled — qualities that don’t always come easy to young goalkeepers.

This loan looks like the perfect next step. With Yeovil pushing for promotion and looking to be competitive, Ward will get the kind of pressure and responsibility that can really shape a player. And from a Rovers perspective, it’s ideal — regular minutes, competitive football, and a chance for him to return even sharper.

It’ll be interesting to keep tabs on how he gets on this season. If he keeps progressing the way he has, there’s no reason he can’t challenge for the number one shirt at the Mem in the near future.

Good luck, Wardy — we’ll be watching.
