Bristol Rovers have completed the signing of Mees Rijks.
Rijks is not the experienced head many supporters feel the squad is still crying out for, particularly given the challenges ahead. He arrives as a developing player rather than a ready made solution, and expectations should be set accordingly.
That said, every signing deserves a fair opportunity. Rijks comes with potential and a point to prove, and sometimes those are the players who surprise you most when given time and trust. Settling into English football is never straightforward, especially for younger players, so patience will be key.
This looks like a move aimed at adding depth and energy rather than instant leadership. Whether it works will depend on how well Rijks adapts and how he is used within the squad.
He is now a Bristol Rovers player, and as supporters the focus should be on backing him to succeed.
Let’s give him a chance and see where it leads.
