Losing Connor Taylor Would Sting – But It’s No Surprise

Here we go again, Gasheads.

Barely a week after the season wrapped up with that gutting relegation to League Two, the vultures are already circling. And it’s no shock that Peterborough United are sniffing around Connor Taylor — one of the few bright sparks in what was an otherwise bleak campaign.

According to reports, the Posh are “lining up a move” for the 23-year-old centre-back, and honestly, who can blame them?

Connor’s been an absolute rock at the back. Ever since he rejoined us permanently from Stoke in 2023 (after that standout loan), he's done nothing but put in solid, committed performances. Even when the rest of the squad looked lost at sea, Connor kept his head — calm on the ball, dominant in the air, and not afraid to put his body on the line. He racked up 43 league appearances this past season, and if we’re being honest, he deserved much better than the chaos that unfolded around him.

What hurts even more is knowing that Darrell Clarke wants to keep him. Clarke’s made no secret of the fact he’s looking to build a side capable of bouncing back straight away — and Connor Taylor is exactly the kind of player you do that with. Leader on the pitch, professional off it. Plenty within the club have even pointed to him as a future captain — and you can see why. He’s got that presence, that maturity, that fight. The sort of player you build a spine around.

Of course, it won’t be easy. Relegation means we’re more vulnerable, and clubs like Peterborough will try to take advantage. But Clarke’s no mug — and I’m sure he’ll do everything he can to convince Taylor to stay and be part of the rebuild.

If we’re serious about bouncing back, keeping hold of players like Connor Taylor has to be the first step.

Up the Gas.
