Kilgour on the Radar: A Rovers Return in the Works?

Could a familiar face be set for a return to the Mem? Vital Gas understands that Alfie Kilgour, former Rovers academy graduate and defensive stalwart, is firmly on the radar for a shock return to BS7.

It’s been a while since Kilgour departed the Gas for Mansfield Town in January 2023—a move that at the time felt inevitable, but still stung many supporters. A product of our youth system, Alfie always gave his all in the quarters, racking up over 100 appearances and never shying away from a tackle. He embodied the grit and passion that Rovers fans love.

Unfortunately, his time at Mansfield was derailed by injury, with a long spell on the sidelines due to a ruptured Achilles. But now, Kilgour is fully fit, a free agent, and hungry to prove himself again. And with Rovers in need of defensive reinforcements this summer, a return for one of our own doesn’t just make sense—it feels right.

You only have to look at the current centre-back situation to see the logic. With plenty of talk about reshaping the back line, and a new gaffer looking to bring in players who understand the club, Kilgour would tick all the boxes. He knows the badge, the fans, and the expectations. And you can bet he’d be welcomed back with open arms on the terraces.

Of course, nothing is official yet. But if there’s even the slightest chance we see Alfie in the blue and white quarters again—this time with a point to prove—it would be one of those feel-good football stories Rovers fans live for.
