From Vaduz to the Mem – Welcome, Fabrizio Cavegn

ree

It’s been a busy summer in BS7, and today the Gas added a very intriguing new face to the ranks. Bristol Rovers have confirmed the signing of 22-year-old Swiss forward Fabrizio Cavegn from FC Vaduz — a move that signals intent, ambition, and a shift in recruitment.

Let’s be honest — it’s not every day we see Rovers dip into the Swiss leagues. But Cavegn isn’t just any unknown quantity. With 41 goals in 103 senior appearances, European experience, and caps for the Swiss U21s, this lad clearly knows where the net is. Now he’s swapped the Alps for the Thatchers Terrace — and we can’t wait to see what he brings.

He’ll wear the No.29 shirt and becomes our ninth summer signing, but the first from outside the UK this window. It feels like a calculated risk — but one worth taking. At 22, he’s still developing, but the numbers suggest he’s been doing more than just making up the minutes.

Cavegn spoke with real enthusiasm about joining the Gas:

“From the first contact, I told my family I really wanted to do it. I already feel at home here.”

That’s what you want to hear as a fan — a player who wants to be here and feels the pull of the club. Not just a pit stop, not just another move — a commitment.

Darrell Clarke highlighted his pace, versatility, and finishing ability, and if the clips online are anything to go by, he looks sharp off the shoulder and unafraid to run at defenders. Rovers have lacked that sort of forward in recent years — someone who can stretch a back line and make defenders sweat in behind.

And Director of Football Ricky Martin touched on another key point: experience. Despite being just 22, Cavegn has already played over 100 senior matches in Switzerland, including time in the top tier and European nights. He’s not just a “project” — he’s battle-tested.

Final Thoughts

This signing feels like a bit of a curveball — and I love it. It’s smart, ambitious recruitment. It’s not just about names we know or English league experience anymore. It’s about finding value, quality, and players with something to prove.

Cavegn clearly wants to make this work. And if he does? He could be the type of signing we look back on as a masterstroke.

Welcome to the Gas, Fabrizio. Let’s make some memories.
