It’s official – Bristol Rovers wonderkid Kofi Shaw has completed a big move to Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal reportedly rising into the seven figures.
While it’s a massive opportunity for Shaw, it’s bittersweet news for Gasheads. The 18-year-old has been on the radar ever since he burst onto the scene at The Quarters, catching eyes with his electric pace, sharp feet and fearless creativity. He further impressed during a loan spell at Yeovil, and it seems the Seagulls were paying close attention.
Brighton’s recruitment team, who’ve built a reputation for spotting raw gems, believe Shaw is worth the punt. And let’s be honest – few clubs do youth development quite like them. Still, it’s tough to see one of our brightest lights head for the south coast before truly lighting up the Mem.
Credit to the Club for securing a strong deal – rumoured to be seven figures – and for once, Rovers seem to be benefiting properly from our academy’s promise. But it stings that we won’t see Shaw reach his potential in blue and white quarters.
Here’s hoping Kofi smashes it at Brighton. Once a Gashead, always a Gashead. Good luck, kid.
