Connor Taylor Departs: Disappointing, But Replaceable

ree

Connor Taylor is on his way out of the Mem, with Wycombe Wanderers set to complete a deal worth around £600,000 plus add-ons for the 23-year-old defender.

Rovers had turned down several offers from Peterborough, but Wycombe’s bid has done the trick. Taylor is expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday and finalise his move to Adams Park shortly after.

It’s a disappointing exit — not least because Connor had been part of the furniture at Rovers, racking up 136 appearances and becoming a familiar face in the back line since rejoining permanently from Stoke last summer. His earlier loan in 2021–22 saw him play a key role in our promotion campaign, and many had hoped he’d lead from the back again as we tried to bounce back from relegation.

But football moves quickly. Taylor may have impressed individually last season, but as a collective, we failed. He was left out of the squad against Harrogate on Saturday, and that absence now feels more telling than ever.

Let’s be honest — this one stings a little, but it’s not the end of the world. He’s a good player, but he’s not irreplaceable. £600k is a tidy sum in League Two, and if used wisely, it could help us strengthen across the park.

Thanks for your efforts, Connor. But now it’s about the badge, not the names. Darrell Clarke knows what it takes to build a team with heart, and the focus must shift to those who are committed to the challenge ahead.

Onwards and upwards. UTG.

It is a shame, but decent money and can get a couple players in hopefully to strengthen this squad.
