At last! After months of waiting, the Gas finally have a win to celebrate – and fittingly it came at the Mem with a proper battling display. Ellis Harrison might have got the goal, but this victory was all about grit, organisation and sheer determination.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute. Macauley Southam-Hales launched one of his trademark long throws, Harrison Kilgour rose highest to flick it on, and there was Harrison – volleying home in front of the Thatchers to send the Mem wild. A proper Gas goal: big throw, big header, big finish.

We should have wrapped it up straight after the restart when Promise Omochere went through on goal, only to selfishly shoot at Jake Eastwood with Luke Thomas screaming for the pass. Hands up straight away – he knew he’d messed that one up. Soon after, Eastwood nearly made a howler when Sparkes’ in-swinging corner almost crept in, but the keeper clawed it away.
As always, we don’t do things the easy way. Cambridge grew into the game and piled the pressure on in the last 20 minutes. Former Rovers man Ryan Loft threatened with a header, but thankfully it sailed over. When Mamadou Jobe saw red in stoppage time for chopping down Omochere, it was game over.
The roar at full-time was as much relief as celebration – our first win since March, hard-earned and long overdue. Clarke will know there’s still a lot to improve on, but tonight was about one thing: finding a way to win.
Man of the Match: Alfie Kilgour – immense at the back, a captain’s performance. Threw himself into everything, won the crucial flick for the goal, and led the line like a proper Gashead.
Up The Gas. 💙🤍
